Let's say you have two girls: Anna and Maria. Both Anna and Maria run 2:08 for 800m and 2:50 for 1000m, and both girls run pretty equal times when it comes to 400m and 600m. However, Maria has a significant advantage in the longer distances. Say: Maria's mile PR is 20 seconds faster than Anna's, her 3K PR is 1 minute faster than Anna's, and her 5K PR is 2 minutes faster. Will Maria have a significant edge over Anna when it comes to college recruiting? I'd think that college coaches would find potential in Anna, given she can run fast 800m and 1000m times with such a poor aerobic base, and can improve her main events if only she improves in the longer distances. But Maria seems to be more athletically gifted and versatile. What are your thoughts?
